On Tuesday Anele Mafa, Ayamkele Goduka and Luyolo Mbi walked free after spending over 3 months in the Fort Beaufort Correctional Service. They were arrested last year October and were charged for the robbery of Sam Lennox.

The State closed the case on Tuesday when Magistrate ruled the evidence was not conclusive to prosecute and the witness could not clearly identify the suspects. The Magistrate also argued the Police should not have solely relied on the statement given by Mr Sam, and should have questioned other witnesses too. No witness was brought forward by the time the case was investigated, only at a later stage and even then the witness was out of town.

The 3 men took the witnesses’ cell phone, R73 and other small items. These 3 young men referred to as Amapharaphara by the community have countless charges against them robbery being the most common. Anele Mafa still has to stand trial for a murder case he was involved in.
