Broken pieces that can be mended without glue

Yolisa Magibile
The world offers everything to cover up what and who we really are. It offers a picture of what perfection is but does not give us steps on how to reach perfection. Social media, playing a major role in the evolution of our lives, does not rescue us but force us to drown in confusion while we search for perfection through it. People weigh their level of achievement based on Facebook, Twitter and or Instagram updates. It has become a norm that you must post and paint a picture of 'a perfect lifestyle' to prove that you are moving forward in life. I'm not saying it is wrong to do so, I also post whatever I want on my social networks and whenever I want to.

Therefore the freedom choice allows us to carefully select what is worth depleting our kilobyte of data. It's choice! We scroll down videos, images, check-ins and status updates of what a perfect lifestyle is all about. But never do we scroll down our timelines and find methods that we can employ to become best versions of ourselves. And for this reason our generation holds a highest burden of unachieved dreams. It is better for us to sit and feel sorry for ourselves. Sorry about what we wish we could achieve without depositing hard work. For us hard work means spending more time on social media trying to feast our eyes of what we are capable of achieving. We are not a reading generation let alone a united nation. If we were united and knowing we were a reading generation, those who have knowledge would share it with us on social media knowing that there are those who will drink from the well and be satisfied.

Accepting that we lack influence during this era, we need to start thinking & behaving like people of influence. Our mindsets should be directly proportional to our actions. If you aspire to become an entrepreneur, for example, you need to start behaving and acting like one.

That is online and offline social platforms.

Social media playing a big role in our lives have so much impact on each and everyone on us. Therefore what you write sends subliminal messages about you. And from what you read you receive the subliminal messages. People are directly and indirectly abused online. Emotionally abused! Because what you see online becomes registered in your brain and retrieved when needed. To stop and avoid cyber abuse you need to make a few changes on certain things

1. Do not spend most of your time on social media rather spend more time reading materials that will help you become who you aspire to become.
2. Be selective on what issues deserve your attention
3. Spring clean your cyber friend list_ prune out friends that mean you no good (abuse you)
4. Write life constructing issues on your page, always
5. Be genuine about ideas you post. Own them!
6. Post ideas that will benefit others

It is possible to be the same person online and offline especially when you are are being true to yourself. Keep it real to save our generation.
